Giving back to society
We do not only want to focus on creating profit, but we want all parties involved to benefit from the production of our clothing. It is our responsibility as a world citizen to give back to society.
Supporting good causes
WE Fashion supports different charities every year. In recent years, we have mainly provided support to children in the countries where we produce. Children are the future of these countries and we believe that education is one of the best tools to break the vicious circle of poverty.
With the WE Get Together Foundation we focus on projects that create an active involvement between employees, customers and suppliers of WE Fashion. The emphasis is on social projects in the countries where WE Fashion produces, but also in the countries where WE Fashion is operationally active. Themes that are supported by the Foundation include prosperity, health, education, environment and emergency aid.
The money for donations comes from organising sample sales, selling old stock and incidental fundraising by our employees. We also donate samples and worn clothing to Salvation Army Reshare and Caritas.
WE Fashion has set one goal in the sustainability strategy to achieve the above, the goal has one action.

Charities we supported in 2019
In 2019, we supported several different charities with donations from the WE Get Together Foundation. We asked our colleagues to nominate charities that are close to their hearts, and we received very positive reactions. In total, we donated 90.000 euro to 10 different charities; support to a children’s home in Malawi, funds for a professor to do further research in cures for a rare disease, funding new décor for a dance group that visits the elderly, and we funded a nice meal for the homeless in the city Utrecht, where our HQ and distribution center are located, on Christmas and New Year’s Eve.

Membership of the Dutch agreement on sustainable garments and textile
Together with many other companies, the government, trade unions, NGOs and trade associations, WE Fashion takes part in the Dutch agreement on sustainable garments and textile, to promote a sustainable clothing and textiles industry. The initiative addresses important themes such as living wages, child labour and freedom and trade union, but also focusses on discrimination and gender, living wage, safety and health at work, animal welfare, forced labour, raw materials, water pollution and the use of chemicals, water and energy in the supply chain.
WE Fashion has a seat in the steering committee of the agreement, to represent the interests of the larger brands. As a signatory brand, WE Fashion works closely with all other parties on improvements in the clothing and textile industry. Brands are committed to submitting information on their due diligence process, annual overviews of factories and materials used to create their products. Each year we also submit an action plan, where the actual steps towards mitigation and remediation are outlined.
Workers in the supply chains of signatory brands can file a complaint if their rights are violated, either direct or via worker representatives or other organizations that represent the interests of people, the environment or animals. If a complaint comes in from the supply chain of WE Fashion, we are notified so we can immediately take the appropriate action. The independent complaints committee has the authority to make binding judgments. How to submit a complaint can be found here. Want to build a circular fashion industry together? You can, by returning your old WE Fashion clothes to one of our stores. All collected clothing will be donated to the Salvation Army ReShare and where possible will be reused or recycled. All wearable clothing will go to those in need or will be sold in the ReShare Stores at an affordable price. All the income from the sales will support the Salvation Army's charitable work. By returning your clothes you will be supporting a good cause, making other people happy and contributing to a better environment!
How it works
- Fill a bag with WE Fashion clothes that you no longer wear, and bring them to a WE store near you.
- Nothing is too small or insignificant to be recycled; even socks can be reused.
- Your bag will be sent to the Salvation Army ReShare from our stores. If the clothing can still be worn, it will be reused. The rest of the items will be recycled.
- The clothes must be cleaned and washed.
- This promotion is taking place in all WE stores in all countries.
- WE Fashion reserves the right to amend the promotion terms and/or terminate the promotion prematurely.
WE Fashion is working with the salvation army
The Salvation Army is there for everyone, regardless of religion, background or beliefs. In addition to its extensive charity work the Salvation Army has been collecting clothing and textiles for over 130 years under the name ReShare.
With 28.7 million kilograms in 2017 it has long been the Netherlands' largest textiles collector. The collected clothing is used to help those in need, whilst another part is sold to sorting companies. Since 2013 clothing has also been sold in the Salvation Army's own second-hand clothing stores, the ReShare stores. These stores with their fresh and modern design offer attractive clothing at an affordable price for people who don't have much to spend, want to protect the environment or are looking for something unique. All the income from clothing sales supports the Salvation Army's charitable work, such as providing facilities for teenage mothers, youth work or reintegration into the labour market.
